Welcome to the Year One class page. Mrs Hickinbottom is our class teacher and Mrs Richards is our class teaching assistant. Here you can find lots of information about Year One as well as keeping up to date with all of the exciting things that we get up to throughout the school year.
Our Spring topic is 'High Flying Humans'. We will be learning about inventors and their inventions such as the Wright Brothers. We will be studying stories by the same author 'Julia Donaldson', writing information texts, instructions and letters. Our Maths is addition and subtraction, place value and measurements.
In Science we will be learning about our bodies. In computing we will be learning about e-safety and creating our own computer games.
Our RE topics are: Books, Thanksgiving and Opportunities.
PE this term will be gymnastics.
In Key Stage One our homework is given out on Friday and is due back to school no later than the following Wednesday. It will normally consist of reading and spelling words containing sounds that we have been learning during that week.
Other less frequent homework will include Maths, Topic and Come and See tasks.
Reading is such a valuable life skill and is also relevant across all subjects within school. Regular practise really does make a huge difference to reading ability, as does talking about what has been read with someone at home too. Please try to ensure your child reads at home for at least 15 minutes each night and gets their home/school diary signed to indicate that this has happened.
In our class, PE will take place on Wednesdays and Thursdays. It is expected that your child will have the appropriate indoor and outdoor PE kit available on these days. The correct PE kit consists of: a white t-shirt, red shorts and plimsolls for indoor sports. Trainers are required for outdoor activities. Earrings will need to be removed at home before PE lessons please.
We will be going out to Eco Land on Friday mornings. Please ensure that your child has appropriate clothing ie: warm clothes on cold days (waterproof if possible), hats, gloves and wellies
