OUR LEARNING

During the summer term, our topic will be "We are Explorers".  We will learn about the history of exploration and find out about the contribution explorers past and present have made to our planet and society. In Geography we will look at the globe and discover what it is like to live in differnt areas including the northern and southern hemispheres, equator, arctic and antarctic. We have started this term by writing formal letters to explorers, and we will continue to develop our English skills through writing biographies of explorers, instructions during Healthy week and writing our own adventure stories. Our focus in Maths this term will be on measures, length and perimeter, shape, statistics and co-ordinates, time and volume and capacity. In Come and See, we will explore the theme of Pentecost through our New Life topic. Our other topics are called Building Bridges (Reconciliation) and God's People (Universal Church). Our other faiths week this term will focus on Sikhism.

OUR ROUTINES

Homework for Y3/4 will now be given out on Fridays.  It will consist of three activities and should be handed back into class no later than the following Wednesday. Each week children will have 10 spellings to learn and there will be an acitivity to complete to help them.  The spelling test will now be on a Wednesday morning. There will also be a times table sheet to complete and one other activity which may be English, Maths, topic or related to Come and See.

Children also need to be encouraged to read every night (15-20 minutes). Please try to hear them read as much as possible and ask them questions about the text or explain words/phrases they are unsure of. We ask that you sign the reading diary at least three times a week to show that your child has read at home.

Swimming will continue for Y3/4 during the summer term.  PE in school will be mostly outdoor games such as rounders and hockey. We will teaching the children all about being good sportsmen/women whilst developing a healthy sense of competition.  Please ensure that your child has their PE kit in school at all times (including trainers). The kit can be taken home at the weekend for a wash.
