Reading is one of life's most important skills and is something which is highly valued here at Holy Trinity.
We share lots of exciting and engaging stories in class every day, to promote a love of reading.
In Key Stage 1, reading books will be give out according to your child's Read Write Inc group. Please ensure your child brings their reading folder in to school every day to allow their books to be changed on the correct day. Pleas read with your child regularly at home.
In English, we will be following the daily Read Write Inc programme which covers spelling, reading, writing and phonics.
We take part in daily Maths sessions, which will develop their mental and written maths skills. Each unit will provide many varied opportunities provided to extend their knowledge. Children will be given the chance to explore ‘real-life’ problem solving and develop their mathematical reasoning skills throughout their work. The children will be taught a range of arithmetic strategies including number bonds and doubling and halving, as well as times tables for Year 2.
In Come & See, we will focus on three topics during the Lent term: Special People, Meals and Change. During these topics the children will have opportunities to talk about and retell different Bible stories, as well as begin to describe different signs and symbols, which will help them with their understanding of the Catholic faith. Regular class liturgies for collective worship will also take place an d the children will be encouraged to plan and lead these liturgies. As part of our work on Other Faiths this term, we will be investigating Judaism. During our work we will be learning about different Jewish stories, in particular stories about Abraham and Moses.
In Geography this term we will be focussing on Geographical human and physical features.
In our History work we will be finding out all about significant people and their lives, including Grace Darling and Mary Seacole.
Our Science work will be based on materials and their uses, where we will be answering the question ‘which material is best for building a boat?’.
In Art this term we will be developing our drawing skills using a range of different media and in our Design Technology sessions we will be designing and making a boat using our knowledge learnt in Science.
Our Music work this term will be focused on the skills of listening and composition.
