During this academic year, we will be communicating a lot more through the use of Class Dojo and sharing lots of the children's wonderful work here too. Please do ensure you have set up your Class Dojo account in order to access this.
If you need to contact us at any time throughout the year, please do not hesitate to get in touch. We can be reached through the messaging feature on your Class Dojo account, via email or in school, by appointment with the school office.
Our Curriculum themes for the Advent term at Holy Trinity are: Belonging and Changes & Events.
We will be using a range of wonderful books in our work this term, including: Great Adventurers by Alistair Humphrys, The Dark by Lemony Snicket and Curiosity: A Mars Rover by Markus Motum. We will also be reading the exciting adventure story Brightstorm by the wonderful author, Vashti Hardy as our first class novel this year.
In Come & See, we will focus on three topics during the Autumn term: Loving, Vocations and Advent. During these topics the children will have opportunities to explore the scriptures in depth, which will encourage a deeper understanding of our Catholic faith and other religions.
In Geography this term we will be investigating the question, ‘Where do I belong?’ We will look at the countries of the world with a particular focus on South America and the Amazon Rainforest. In our History work we will be finding out all about power of the monarchs. Our Science work will be based on light & shadow and the Earth in space. We will be conducting detailed investigations, creating our own hypotheses, collecting useful data based on our studies and analysing the results we find to reach a scientific conclusion.
In our Design Technology sessions we will be designing and building a Mars Rover vehicle.
Our Music work this term will be focused on the skills of listening and composition. The children will also be receiving music tuition from Mrs Stanton and learning to play an instrument.
We will begin the academic year in Computing by reminding ourselves of the importance of E-safety.
In Year 5/6W this year our homework is given out on Monday and is due back to school no later than the following Monday. It will normally consist of one piece of English, Maths or Come & See work, alongside the expectation to complete specific objectives on the IXL Maths & English online platform each week. This academic year, we are actively encouraging the children to complete and upload their homework to their Class Dojo portfolios, either as a document or a photograph of the completed task. If you require any support with this, please do get in touch.
Alongside the homework tasks detailed above, National Curriculum & RWI spellings will be given out each week too. These spellings should be learnt at home and then the children will be tested on them the following week.
Practising times tables is a vital life skill that will help in all areas of your child’s maths work. It is important that all children are confident and quick when recalling them. All children have access to the Times Tables Rockstar online platform, which is a great way to practise and develop confidence and recall of the various times tables facts.
Reading is also an incredibly important skill and is relevant across all subjects within school. Regular practise really does make a huge difference to both of these, as does talking about what has been read with someone at home too. Please try to ensure your child reads at home for at least 15 minutes each night and gets their home/school diary signed to indicate that this has happened. Reading can also be logged on Class Dojo as a message or through the portfolio section.
PE will take place on Monday and Tuesday in Year 5/6W. On these days your child should attend school wearing their PE kit. It is expected that your child will have the appropriate indoor and outdoor PE kit for these days in order to access the sessions appropriately. The correct PE kit consists of: a white t-shirt, red shorts and plimsolls for indoor sports. Trainers are required for outdoor activities. A tracksuit can also be worn, especially when the weather is colder.
