Religious Education Intent
‘In every child’s heart there is a space that only God can fill’ – St Thomas Aquinas
At Holy Trinity we continually strive to develop the full potential of the school community in an environment permeated by the Catholic Faith and promoting Gospel values. At the heart of our mission is the family, school and parish, each supporting and working in mutual cooperation for the benefit of the children.
Children at Holy Trinity are invited to approach RE as a curriculum or learning journey that they follow each year, which delves deeper each subsequent year. The framing curriculum branches are: Creation and Covenant, Prophecy and Promise, Galilee to Jerusalem, Desert to Garden, To the ends of the earth, and Dialogue and encounter.
Our RE Curriculum Intent is summarised as follows:
- To develop children’s knowledge and understanding of the Catholic faith
- To give children the skills to enable them to examine, reflect and question upon religious beliefs and practise
- To develop knowledge of other faiths and beliefs, in order to help respect and understand them
- To provide opportunities for each child to develop a personal relationship with God
Religious Education Implementation
To fulfill the above curriculum intent and aims outlined in the Religious Education Curriculum Directory, 2023 – the ‘To Know You More Clearly’ programme is used, as set out in the Religious Education Directory
Religious Education is taught through the process of:
Knowledge lenses – which set out the programme of study for pupils and what should be known at the end of each age-phase. These lenses are; hear, believe, celebrate and live (during the study of Catholic religion), dialogue and encounter (during the study of other religions and world views).
Ways of Knowing – which set out the skills that pupils should be developing as they progress through their curriculum journey. The ways of knowing are the head (understand), heard (discern) and hands (respond).
Curriculum branches – which is the way in which the programme (To Know You More Clearly) is set out and the expected outcomes are presented.
Further information on the ‘To know you more clearly’ can be found using the links below.
